Turkey hunting first captured Mike’s attention about 15 years ago. He had
been an avid deer, goose, and duck hunter for many years, but had never spent any time turkey hunting. When he called his
first turkey within 15 feet of himself; Mike knew he had found his passion.
Mike’s grandfather, Maxcey Wells,
who passed away always used box calls to call in his turkeys. About 6 years ago, Mike decided to try his hand at crafting
box calls himself. He studied many different techniques and styles, All Mike needed now was a name for them. It didn’t
take him long to decide on Maxcey-Strut Custom Turkey Calls, after his grandfather.
Slowly but surely, his business
is making a name for itself. Recently, a caller took 3rd Place at a local contest using a Maxcey-Strut Custom Box Call. Mike’s
dream is to one-day make handcrafting box calls his full time job. For now, he is a guide and photographer working with his
dad at 4 Rivers Outdoors TV.
Tommy Housman has been hunting and working on small projects around the house for most of his adult life. He always
wanted to use his artistic talents and apply them to something functional. After working with Mike in his shop a couple times
he found a passion for making turkey calls and joined forces with Mike to make MAXCEY STRUT a common name in the hunter’s
repertoire. We feel that his creativity and willingness to think outside the box is going to bring a whole new look in the
world of turkey call craftsmanship.
